About Me

Naheed was an exceptionally well-travelled toddler, moving with her family around the UK as her father pursued his career throughout her childhood, even emigrating to California during some of her teenage years. The family eventually returned to the UK near the end of Naheed’s schooling, when she took O and A levels in a rush of studying, before gaining a degree in Life Sciences and Physiology at the University of Westminster.

Naheed’s first job was as an optical assistant which she enjoyed so much, she took the decision to further her education and qualify as a Dispensing Optician. She did this at the same time as getting married and a year later, having her daughter – she likes, she says, to keep busy!

History

Unfortunately in 1998 and with her one month old daughter in the car, Naheed was involved in an accident and sustained severe whiplash injuries resulting in long-term pain. Having always had an interest in complementary therapies, she left no stone unturned in search of relief, trying everything from acupuncture to massage as well as conventional physiotherapy but nothing helped for more than a short while.

Continuing her career as a Dispensing Optician Naheed, had her second child and was still suffering the after-effects of the accident when her sister-in-law persuaded her to try the Bowen Technique. To her amazement, the backache was banished in less than 6 months. Made, she says, pretty cynical by her experiences to date, Naheed waited for the pain to return. It didn’t.

So bowled over was she that she started researching the treatment and its history and, further intrigued, began training as a Bowen therapist in her own right. She studied at Bowen Association UK (widely regarded as the gold standard professional association for Bowen practitioners) successfully qualifying in July 2005. At this stage she was still practising as a Dispensing Optician but was also testing her newly developed knowledge and skill on friends and family. The results were so rewarding that before she knew it, she’d built up a substantial client base, with people requesting Bowen Treatment appointments, faster than she could accommodate them.

So, she made the major life decision to give up optics and concentrate on her Bowen practice. A decision she’s never for one moment regretted. Her career change has, she said led to a far better work life balance and – best of all – many happy and grateful clients. One of the favourite aspects of her practice is her work with pregnant women and new-borns and her future plans include training as a Doula, offering support during pregnancy, birth and post-natally.
